Prime Monster System Requirements: PC Specs, Steam Deck Performance & Console Status

Prime Monster is a card-based political roguelike from Cavalier Game Studios, published by Cavalier Game Studios and Rekoup. You play as a literal monster campaigning to become Prime Monster of the Fractured Kingdom, bullying, blackmailing, and occasionally murdering your way through a parliament of 30 reprehensible representatives across 15 political parties. Performance-wise, this is a very lightweight title: it runs on the Unity Engine with 2D card art and turn-based debates, and the official minimum asks for a graphics card from 2012. It launched on 4 May 2026 on PC via Steam, priced at $19.99. There is no console version, and the game has no controller support, meaning it is designed exclusively for keyboard and mouse. The specifications below are taken directly from the official Prime Monster Steam page, SteamDB, and Gematsu.

System Requirements

Minimum (Windows)

ComponentRequirement
OSWindows 10 and above
ProcessorIntel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX-8320
Memory (RAM)8 GB
GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce GT 640 or AMD Radeon R7 250
VRAMNot listed separately by the developer; the GT 640 ships with 1 GB or 2 GB, the R7 250 with 1 GB or 2 GB
DirectXVersion 11
Storage2 GB available space
Additional NotesKeyboard and mouse required. No controller support.

What this means in practice: The minimum tier targets 1080p at 60 fps on low-to-medium settings, which is more than sufficient for a turn-based card game with static 2D art and minimal animation. The Core i5-4590 is a 2014 processor and the GT 640 is a 2012 card, so this is hardware from the Windows 7 era. The VRAM requirement is effectively negligible: the GT 640 and R7 250 both shipped with 1 GB or 2 GB, and either is more than enough for this game’s asset load. You will not be VRAM-limited here. The 8 GB system RAM floor is standard for modern PCs, and the 2 GB install size is tiny. The complete absence of controller support is worth repeating: this is a keyboard-and-mouse game, and that is unlikely to change. If you own a computer built in the last twelve years with a dedicated GPU or decent integrated graphics, you will clear this bar comfortably.

Recommended (Windows)

ComponentRequirement
OSWindows 10 or above
ProcessorIntel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 3 2200G or better
Memory (RAM)8 GB
GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT or better
VRAM4 GB on the GTX 1650; 4 GB or 8 GB on the RX 5500 XT
DirectXVersion 12
Storage2 GB available space
Additional NotesKeyboard and mouse required. No controller support.

What this means in practice: The recommended tier targets 1080p at 60 fps on high settings, and the processor jump from a 2014 Haswell chip to a 2016 Skylake or 2018 Raven Ridge APU is the most meaningful change. The 8 GB RAM requirement is identical to the minimum, which tells you the game’s memory footprint does not scale with graphical settings. The GPU requirement moves to a 4 GB card, but this is likely just reflecting the standard configuration of those cards rather than a genuine VRAM demand. A turn-based card game with 2D art does not need 4 GB of VRAM. If you have a gaming PC from the last five to six years with a mid-range GPU and 8 GB of RAM, you will meet this tier comfortably, though you will not notice a dramatic visual difference from the minimum tier. This is a game where the recommended specification exists to give a clear hardware target rather than to unlock meaningful visual upgrades.

A Note on VRAM

Prime Monster is a card game. It does not use 3D environments, real-time lighting, or high-resolution texture streaming. The VRAM requirement listed on the Steam page is not a meaningful constraint for this game. The GT 640’s 1 GB to 2 GB is entirely sufficient, and the GTX 1650’s 4 GB is far more than the game will ever use. Do not upgrade your GPU for this game. If you are running an older system with a 1 GB or 2 GB card, you are fine. The bottleneck for Prime Monster will be your processor if you have a very old dual-core chip, or your RAM if you are running less than 8 GB, but neither is likely to be an issue on a PC built in the last decade.

Steam Deck

ComponentRequirement
CompatibilityPlayable (Steambase rating); no Valve Verified status confirmed
PerformanceThe game runs on Steam Deck, but the lack of controller support is a significant limitation
Additional NotesKeyboard and mouse are the intended input method. Steam Deck users will need to map controls manually or use the touchscreen.

Source: Steambase’s Steam Deck compatibility data and SteamDB’s supported systems data. Last verified: 18 September 2026.

What this means in practice: Prime Monster carries a Playable rating on Steam Deck according to Steambase, which is Valve’s middle compatibility tier rather than the full Verified badge. The game runs, but the complete absence of controller support means you cannot play it with the Steam Deck’s built-in controls out of the box. Steambase’s platform data lists Windows, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck (Playable) as supported, but the official Steam page’s system requirements section lists Windows only, and the SteamDB supported systems data also lists Windows only. This discrepancy is worth noting: the game may run on Linux through Proton, and by extension on Steam Deck, but it is not officially verified by Valve. If you want to play Prime Monster on Steam Deck, you will need to use the touchscreen or map keyboard and mouse inputs to the Deck’s controls manually, which is not an ideal experience for a card game with dense UI and tooltips. If you own a Steam Deck and want to play this game, a desktop PC remains the better option.

macOS and Linux: Listed by Third-Party Trackers, Not Confirmed on Steam

Steambase lists Mac and Linux as platforms for Prime Monster, and the game’s Unity Engine foundation makes a Mac or Linux build technically plausible. However, the official Steam page system requirements section lists Windows only, and SteamDB’s supported systems data also lists Windows only. I am treating macOS and Linux as unconfirmed rather than supported. If you are a Mac or Linux user, check the official Steam page for any change before purchasing. Steam Deck users play through SteamOS, which is Linux-based, and the Playable rating suggests the game functions there, but this is not the same as an official Linux release.

PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2: Not Available

Prime Monster is a PC-exclusive release. The PEGI rating database lists the game’s platforms as PC only, with a release date of 04/05/2026. Gematsu’s game page confirms the game launched for PC via Steam on 4 May 2026, and IGN’s coverage describes it as “available now for PC (Steam).” There is no PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo version, and Cavalier Game Studios has not announced plans for any console ports. The game’s keyboard-and-mouse-only control scheme makes a console port less likely without a significant redesign. If you play primarily on a console, you cannot access Prime Monster.

Final Verdict: Can Your PC Run Prime Monster?

Yes, almost certainly. Prime Monster is one of the easiest games of 2026 to run. The minimum spec asks for a 2014 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 640 or R7 250, both of which are graphics cards from 2012. The 2 GB install size is tiny, and there is no SSD requirement. If you own a desktop or laptop built in the last twelve years that runs Windows 10, you can run Prime Monster without difficulty.

The 8 GB RAM requirement is the same at both tiers, which tells you the game’s memory footprint does not scale with settings. The recommended GPU is a 4 GB card, but this is far more than a turn-based card game with 2D art will ever use. Do not upgrade your graphics card for this game. If you have an older system with a 1 GB or 2 GB GPU, you are fine. The only meaningful performance variable is your processor, and even a modest quad-core from the last decade will handle the game’s turn-based debate logic without issue.

The complete absence of controller support is the most important practical detail for buyers. This is a keyboard-and-mouse game, and that means Steam Deck users will need to use the touchscreen or manually map controls, which is not an ideal experience for a card game with dense UI. If you have a desktop or laptop PC, that is the best way to play. There are no console versions, and Mac and Linux support is listed by third-party trackers but not confirmed on the official Steam page.

Specs may be revised by Cavalier Game Studios in future patches or updates. This article reflects the Prime Monster Steam store page, SteamDB, Gematsu, IGN, VGtimes, Steambase’s Steam Deck compatibility data and review data, and the PEGI rating database as of 18 September 2026. Chen Xi verifies all specifications by checking official store pages and dating each table; no numbers in this article are estimated or inferred.
