Halo: Campaign Evolved System Requirements: PC Specs, PS5, Xbox Series X|S & Steam Deck Performance Guide

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a ground-up remake of the 2001 original, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 with Nanite, Lumen hardware ray tracing, and Virtual Shadow Maps. It launched on 28 July 2026 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, marking the first time a mainline Halo game has appeared on PlayStation hardware. Performance-wise, this is a genuinely demanding title: the official minimum asks for an RTX 2060 Super and 16 GB of RAM, and Halo Studios has published four distinct specification tiers rather than the usual two. Every tier requires an SSD with 100 GB of free space and Windows 11, with no HDD fallback listed anywhere. The official PC specifications are published on the Halo: Campaign Evolved Steam page and detailed in KitGuru’s specification breakdown.

System Requirements

What this means in practice: The minimum tier targets 1080p at 60 fps on Low settings, and the Ryzen 5 3600 is a 2019 processor while the RTX 2060 Super is a 2019 mid-range card. The 8 GB VRAM floor is the detail that matters most: a 4 GB or 6 GB card will not meet this specification regardless of its raw compute power. The 16 GB system RAM requirement is standard for modern AAA games, but the jump to 32 GB at the recommended tier is notable. The 100 GB SSD requirement has no HDD fallback, which is a strict but increasingly common policy for Unreal Engine 5 titles. If you have a gaming PC from the last five to six years with an 8 GB GPU and 16 GB of RAM, you will clear this bar. Resizable BAR is recommended, and for Intel Arc owners it is effectively mandatory to hit the stated frame rate.

Recommended (Windows, 4K at 60 FPS, High Preset)

ComponentRequirement
OSWindows 11 (64-bit required)
ProcessorAMD Ryzen 7 7700 or Intel Core i7-12700K
Memory (RAM)32 GB
GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti (12 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 9070 (16 GB)
VRAM12 GB on the NVIDIA card; 16 GB on the AMD card
DirectXVersion 12
Storage100 GB available space on SSD (SSD required)
NetworkBroadband internet connection required
Additional NotesTargets 4K at 60 FPS on High preset. DLSS 4, FSR, XeSS, TSR, NVIDIA Reflex, and AMD Anti-Lag supported.

What this means in practice: The recommended tier targets 4K at 60 fps on High settings, and the hardware request is genuinely high-end. The Ryzen 7 7700 is a 2023 processor and the RTX 3080 Ti is a 2021 flagship card. The jump from 16 GB to 32 GB of RAM is one of the more significant memory increases I have seen for a 2026 release, and it reflects the game’s Unreal Engine 5 rendering pipeline holding Lumen global illumination, ray-traced reflections, and dense environmental geometry in memory simultaneously. The 12 GB to 16 GB VRAM requirement is the practical target for 4K rendering with ray tracing active. If you have a gaming PC from the last three to four years with an RTX 3080-class GPU and 32 GB of RAM, you will meet this tier. Halo Studios has also published Medium (1440p at 60 fps) and Ultra (4K at 60 fps maximum settings) tiers, with Ultra requiring an RTX 4080 and 16 GB of VRAM.

A Note on VRAM and System RAM

The 8 GB VRAM minimum and 32 GB system RAM recommendation tell different stories. The GPU memory requirement is the hard threshold for 1080p, and a 6 GB card will not meet it. The 32 GB RAM recommendation is unusually high for a first-person shooter and reflects the game’s Unreal Engine 5 architecture, which streams large amounts of geometry and lighting data through system memory as well as VRAM. If you are running 16 GB, you meet the minimum, but you may encounter stuttering or texture streaming issues at higher settings. This is a case where both VRAM and system RAM are meaningful constraints, and upgrading either component alone may not be enough if the other falls short.

PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro

ComponentRequirement
FirmwareLatest PS5 system software
StorageNot specified on the PlayStation Store listing; PC version requires 100 GB
Performance (PS5)Quality: 30 fps at ~1440p internal resolution; Performance: 60 fps at ~1224p internal resolution, with occasional drops in crowded scenes
Performance (PS5 Pro)Quality: 30 fps at ~1728p internal resolution; Performance: 60 fps at ~1224p with PSSR upscaling, smoother frame rate than base PS5
Additional NotesFull crossplay with PC and Xbox Series XS. Two-player split-screen supported. Cross-progression via linked Xbox account.

What this means in practice: The PS5 version offers two modes. Quality mode runs at 30 fps with roughly 1440p internal resolution, while Performance mode targets 60 fps at around 1224p, with occasional drops in the most crowded combat scenes. Digital Foundry’s testing found that the PS5 and Xbox Series X are “effectively on parity in terms of image quality,” with one notable exception: cutscene stuttering experienced on Xbox was absent on PS5, which Digital Foundry described as providing “a more cohesive experience.” The PS5 Pro is the best console version, with Performance mode running at similar internal resolutions but using PSSR upscaling to produce a “noticeably sharper, cleaner image that mitigates some of the lingering anti-aliasing artefacts seen elsewhere.” The PS5 Pro’s Quality mode pushes internal resolution from 1440p to approximately 1728p. If you own a PS5 Pro, this is the definitive console experience for Halo: Campaign Evolved.

Xbox Series X|S

ComponentRequirement
FirmwareLatest Xbox system software
StorageNot specified on the Xbox Store listing; PC version requires 100 GB
Performance (Series X)Quality: 30 fps up to 4K; Performance: 60 fps with dynamic resolution up to 1880p. Internal resolutions measured at ~1224p (Performance) and ~1440p (Quality).
Performance (Series S)Two modes: 1080p at 30 or 60 fps. Internal resolution around 720p, with reduced vegetation and no foliage animation in Performance mode.
Additional NotesXbox Play Anywhere supported. Day one on Xbox Game Pass. Crossplay and cross-progression with PC and PS5.

Source: IXBT Games, Eurogamer, and Multiplayer.it. Last verified: 22 September 2026.

What this means in practice: The Xbox Series X offers the same two modes as PS5, with Quality at 30 fps up to 4K and Performance at 60 fps with dynamic resolution up to 1880p. IXBT Games’ testing confirms that “in both cases, performance remains stable and frame drops are rare.” However, Digital Foundry identified cutscene stuttering on the Series X that was not present on PS5, which is an unusual result for a Microsoft-published game on Microsoft hardware. The Xbox Series S is the weakest console version, running at internal resolutions around 720p with reduced vegetation and no foliage animation in Performance mode, though Digital Foundry noted it still maintains “consistent performance” and preserves Lumen Reflections despite the hardware limitations. The Xbox Play Anywhere support and day-one Game Pass availability are significant value points for subscribers.

Steam Deck and Handheld PCs: Not Recommended

ComponentRequirement
CompatibilityNot Verified; IGN and TechPowerUp both describe the game as effectively unplayable
PerformanceFrequent frame drops into the mid-to-high 20s even at Very Low settings with aggressive upscaling
Additional NotesROG Ally X testing showed 30-40 fps at minimum graphics settings. Digital Foundry states that achieving a stable 30 fps on Steam Deck “may prove extremely difficult.”

Source: IGN, TechPowerUp, and IXBT Games. Last verified: 22 September 2026.

What this means in practice: Halo: Campaign Evolved is not recommended on Steam Deck or handheld PCs. IGN’s testing concluded that “the game calls for a minimum of an Intel Core i7-10700K and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super, both of which are more powerful than the equivalents found in the base Xbox Ally and the Steam Deck.” TechPowerUp’s handheld performance review was blunter: “Even with copious amounts of upscaling and every graphics option set to Very Low, you’ll experience frequent frame drops into the mid- and high 20s. We don’t consider this playable.” The game’s 16 GB RAM minimum is within the Steam Deck’s unified memory, but the 8 GB VRAM floor is a concern because the Deck’s GPU accesses a portion of that unified memory rather than a dedicated 8 GB pool. If you own a Steam Deck and want to play Halo: Campaign Evolved, streaming from a capable PC or console is the only viable option.

macOS and Linux: Not Available

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a Windows-only release on PC. There is no macOS or native Linux version available. Steam Deck users play through Proton, and the performance issues noted above make this an unappealing option. Desktop Linux users can attempt to run the game through Proton, but this is not officially supported.

Final Verdict: Can Your Setup Run Halo: Campaign Evolved?

Halo: Campaign Evolved is one of the more demanding remakes of 2026. The minimum spec asks for an RTX 2060 Super with 8 GB of VRAM and 16 GB of RAM, which is hardware from 2019. The 8 GB VRAM floor is the hard threshold: a 4 GB or 6 GB card will not meet it. The 100 GB SSD requirement has no HDD fallback, and Windows 11 is mandatory. If you have a gaming PC from the last five to six years with an 8 GB GPU and 16 GB of RAM, you can run the game at 1080p and 60 fps on Low settings.

The recommended tier asks for an RTX 3080 Ti and 32 GB of RAM, which is a genuinely high-end target. The 32 GB RAM requirement is unusually high for a first-person shooter and reflects the game’s Unreal Engine 5 architecture. If you have 16 GB and a capable GPU, you may experience stuttering at higher settings. The DLSS 4, FSR, XeSS, and TSR support means you have multiple upscaling options to help close the gap, but the RAM requirement is not something upscaling can fix.

On console, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are broadly comparable, with both offering 30 fps Quality and 60 fps Performance modes at similar internal resolutions. The PS5 Pro is the definitive console version, with PSSR upscaling delivering a sharper image and a smoother frame rate than any other platform. The Xbox Series S is the weakest console version, capped at around 720p internal resolution with reduced environmental detail. Steam Deck and handheld PCs are not recommended for this game.

Specs and performance may be revised by Halo Studios in future patches, and the developer has already released updates improving frame rate on PS5 and adding chromatic aberration and film grain toggles.
