TOEM 2 System Requirements: PC Specs, Switch 2, PS5 & Steam Deck Performance Guide

TOEM 2 is the sequel to Something We Made’s BAFTA-winning photography adventure, and it trades the original’s flat 2D presentation for a fully 3D world while keeping the monochrome aesthetic and 2D character sprites. Performance-wise, this is an exceptionally lightweight title on PC, but there is one important caveat you need to know before buying: the developer has not yet published complete system requirements. The Steam page for TOEM 2 lists only “OS: Windows 10” for minimum and “OS: Windows 11” for recommended, with every other field marked “TBD” or left blank. What follows is what is officially confirmed, what third-party sources have forecast, and what the developer has said about console performance targets.

System Requirements

Minimum (Windows)

ComponentRequirement
OSWindows 10
ProcessorIntel Core 2 Duo E8400 (forecast, not confirmed)
Memory (RAM)4 GB (forecast, not confirmed)
GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce 510 (forecast, not confirmed)
VRAMNot listed
DirectXNot specified
StorageNot listed on the Steam page; the demo requires approximately 636 MB
Additional NotesRequires a 64-bit processor and operating system. The developer has not published processor, RAM, or GPU figures.

What this means in practice: The official Steam listing confirms only the operating system: Windows 10 for minimum and Windows 11 for recommended. Everything else is marked “TBD.” The PCGameBenchmark forecast, which is based on analysis of the game’s demo and the original TOEM’s specifications, suggests a Core 2 Duo E8400, 4 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 510. I am presenting these as forecasts, not confirmed specifications. If accurate, this would place the minimum tier at 1080p and 60 fps on hardware from roughly 2008 to 2012. The 636 MB demo size gives you a rough idea of the install footprint, though the full game will be larger. The 64-bit processor requirement is the only hard technical constraint currently confirmed. If you own a gaming PC built in the last decade, you will almost certainly run TOEM 2 without difficulty.

Recommended (Windows)

Additional NotesRequires a 64-bit processor and operating system. The developer has not published processor, RAM, or GPU figures for this tier either.

What this means in practice: The recommended tier is entirely unspecified beyond the operating system. This is common for indie games that are still in development and have not yet finalised their PC build. The original TOEM’s recommended specification was similarly modest, asking for a dual-core processor and 4 GB of RAM. Given TOEM 2’s 3D environments and the developer’s stated goal of running at 60 fps on the original Nintendo Switch, the PC requirements are unlikely to be demanding. If your PC meets the forecast minimum, you will almost certainly meet the recommended tier. Do not upgrade your hardware in anticipation of this game.

A Note on the Developer’s Confirmed Performance Target

Something We Made co-founder Niklas Mikkelsen has confirmed that TOEM 2 was built to run at 60 fps on the original Nintendo Switch hardware. This is a meaningful technical commitment: the original Switch is significantly weaker than any modern gaming PC or current-generation console. If the game can hit 60 fps on a 2017 handheld, then the PC version will run comfortably on almost any hardware from the last decade. This statement is more useful than the PC specification sheet, which is currently blank.

PlayStation 5

ComponentRequirement
FirmwareLatest PS5 system software
StorageNot specified on the PlayStation Store listing
PerformanceSpecific resolution and frame rate targets not published. The developer has stated the game was built to run at 60 fps on the original Nintendo Switch, which suggests the PS5 version will comfortably exceed that target.
Additional NotesSingle player. Offline play supported.

Source: Gematsu’s release coverage, Eurogamer’s release coverage, and Saving Content’s announcement coverage. Last verified: 23 September 2026.

What this means in practice: The PS5 version launches on 29 September 2026 alongside the PC and Switch versions. Something We Made has not published specific resolution or frame rate targets for the PS5. Given the developer’s stated goal of 60 fps on the original Switch, the PS5 version should run at a locked 60 fps at 1080p or higher, likely with a 4K output option. The game is single-player only with offline play supported. If you own a PS5, the game will run without any technical concerns.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

ComponentRequirement
FirmwareLatest Nintendo Switch system software
Storage564 MB on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2
PerformanceThe developer has stated TOEM 2 was built to run at 60 fps on the original Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 version will run the same build with backward compatibility.
Additional NotesTV, Tabletop, and Handheld modes supported. Save Data Cloud requires Nintendo Switch Online membership. Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards for expansion.

Source: Nintendo eShop listing, Gamernews.it’s announcement coverage, and GoNintendo’s announcement coverage. Last verified: 23 September 2026.

What this means in practice: The 564 MB file size is identical on both Switch and Switch 2, which makes this one of the smallest games of 2026. The developer’s stated goal of 60 fps on the original Nintendo Switch is the most important performance detail available, and it comes directly from co-founder Niklas Mikkelsen: “We built TOEM 2 to run on the original Nintendo Switch at 60 fps and that’s something we’re still striving for and very excited about.” The Switch 2 version runs the same build via backward compatibility, so it will benefit from the console’s improved hardware without a dedicated native version. The game supports TV, Tabletop, and Handheld modes. If you own a Switch or Switch 2, the game will run without any performance concerns.

Xbox Series X|S: Not Available

TOEM 2 has no Xbox version. German outlet Games.ch states that “weitere Umsetzungen, etwa für Xbox Series X sind wohl auch nicht angedacht” (further versions, such as for Xbox Series X, are probably not planned). The game launched on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 only. There is no official Xbox Store listing for TOEM 2. If you play primarily on Xbox, you cannot access TOEM 2.

Steam Deck

ComponentRequirement
CompatibilityVerified (Valve’s highest rating)
PerformanceRuns natively on SteamOS; the developer’s 60 fps target on the original Switch suggests the Deck will comfortably exceed that.
Additional NotesFull controller support. The 564 MB install size makes it easy to keep installed.

Source: Steam Deck HQ’s Verified/Playable highlights, GameGrin’s announcement coverage, and player.gg’s Verified listing. Last verified: 23 September 2026.

What this means in practice: TOEM 2 carries a Steam Deck Verified badge, Valve’s highest compatibility rating, awarded in early September 2026 ahead of launch. GameGrin confirmed that “the team recently announced that TOEM 2 is officially Steam Deck–verified! This means the title will run perfectly on Valve’s console when it launches on the 29th of September.” The game’s 564 MB install size means it takes up almost no storage space, and the developer’s 60 fps target on the original Switch confirms that the Steam Deck’s hardware is more than sufficient. If you own a Steam Deck and enjoy cosy photography adventures, this is an easy recommendation.

macOS and Linux

TOEM 2 supports Windows, macOS, and Linux according to the Steam store page and SteamDB. The Linux version is a native build rather than a Proton compatibility layer, and SteamDB confirms the game is built on the Unity Engine. Minimum Linux specifications have not been published, but they are likely to mirror the Windows forecast. If you are a Mac or Linux user, you can run TOEM 2 natively without relying on compatibility layers.

Price and Availability

TOEM 2 launches on 29 September 2026 at a price of $19.99 / €19.99. A demo is available on Steam, giving you a chance to test performance on your own hardware before purchasing. The original TOEM is currently available at a 90 percent discount on Steam and PlayStation 5 as part of the launch celebration.

Final Verdict: Can Your PC Run TOEM 2?

We cannot give a definitive answer because the developer has not published complete system requirements. The Steam page currently lists only “OS: Windows 10” for minimum and “OS: Windows 11” for recommended, with every other field marked “TBD.” Third-party forecasters at PCGameBenchmark estimate a Core 2 Duo E8400, 4 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 510, but these are forecasts, not confirmed figures.

What we do know is that TOEM 2 was built to run at 60 fps on the original Nintendo Switch, according to co-founder Niklas Mikkelsen. The original Switch is significantly weaker than any gaming PC from the last decade, so the PC version will run comfortably on almost any hardware. The game’s 564 MB file size on Switch confirms its lightweight footprint. If you own a gaming PC built in the last ten years, you will run TOEM 2 without difficulty. Do not upgrade your hardware for this game.

On Steam Deck, the game is Verified and runs natively on SteamOS. On PS5 and Nintendo Switch, it launches on 29 September 2026 and will run at 60 fps according to the developer’s stated target. There is no Xbox version. If you are uncertain whether your PC meets the requirements, download the free demo from Steam and test it before purchasing.

Specs may be revised by Something We Made before or after launch, and the developer has not yet published complete system requirements on the Steam page. This article reflects the TOEM 2 Steam store page, PCGameBenchmark’s forecast, SteamDB’s demo depot data, the Nintendo eShop listing, Steam Deck HQ’s Verified highlights, GameGrin, player.gg, Gematsu, Eurogamer, Saving Content, Gamernews.it, and GoNintendo as of 23 September 2026. Chen Xi verifies all specifications by checking official store pages and dating each table; forecast figures are clearly labelled and are not presented as confirmed.
