World of Warcraft: Midnight System Requirements: PC & Mac Specs, Steam Deck Performance Guide
World of Warcraft: Midnight is the tenth expansion for Blizzard’s long-running MMORPG, launching worldwide on 2 March 2026 and concluding the Void-focused storyline that began with The War Within. Performance-wise, this is a demanding expansion by MMO standards. Blizzard has raised the hardware floor significantly compared to previous WoW releases: the minimum now requires a 6-core processor and a DirectX 12 GPU with 4 GB of VRAM, and an SSD is mandatory at every tier. The official specifications are published on the Blizzard support system requirements page, which covers both Windows and Mac.

What this means in practice: The minimum tier targets 1280 x 720 at low settings, and the jump from previous WoW expansions is substantial. The 6-core 4.0 GHz processor requirement pushes the floor to Intel’s 8th-gen Coffee Lake or AMD’s Zen 2 architecture, which is hardware from 2018-2019. The 4 GB VRAM requirement is the other significant change: a 2 GB or 3 GB card will not meet this spec. The SSD requirement has no HDD fallback, which is a first for WoW. If you are still running the game from a mechanical drive, you will need to move it to an SSD before Midnight will run. The 128 GB install size is substantial and reflects the expansion’s new zones, dungeons, and assets. If you have a gaming PC from the last five to six years with a 6-core CPU and a 4 GB GPU, you should clear this bar, but you will be running the game at low resolution and settings.

What this means in practice: The recommended tier is a genuinely modern target. The 8 performance cores at 5.2 GHz requirement points to Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 or AMD’s Zen 5 architecture, which are 2024-2025 processors. The 8 GB VRAM requirement is the practical target for high settings, and it aligns with the RTX 40 series and RDNA 3 cards. The jump from 8 GB to 16 GB of RAM is the most meaningful change between tiers, and it reflects the game’s memory footprint growing as you load into new zones, raids, and the expansion’s denser environments. If you have a gaming PC built in the last two years with a modern 8-core processor and an 8 GB GPU, you will meet this tier comfortably. This is not an inflated recommendation: the expansion’s visual updates and larger zone designs justify the hardware.
Minimum (macOS)
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | macOS 12 |
| Processor | Apple M2 or Intel Core Coffee Lake (9th Generation) |
| Memory (RAM) | 8 GB |
| Graphics | Metal capable 4 GB GPU (Apple M2 8 GB or AMD RDNA 1 4 GB) |
| VRAM | 4 GB on Intel/AMD GPUs; shared with system memory on Apple Silicon |
| Storage | 128 GB available space on SSD (SSD required) |
| Network | Broadband internet connection required |
| Input | Keyboard and mouse required |
| Display | 1280 x 720 minimum resolution |

What this means in practice: The Mac minimum is a significant change from previous expansions. Blizzard has dropped support for M1 Macs entirely: the minimum is now an Apple M2 or an Intel 9th-gen Coffee Lake processor. According to MacRumors and multiple reports, M1 machines will crash in certain newer zones due to graphics bugs that have not been fixed. If you own an M1 Mac, you cannot officially run Midnight. The 4 GB VRAM requirement applies to Intel and AMD GPUs, while Apple Silicon uses shared unified memory. If you own an M2 Mac with 8 GB of RAM, you meet the minimum, though you will be running at low resolution and settings.
Recommended (macOS)
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | macOS 15 |
| Processor | Apple M4 |
| Memory (RAM) | 16 GB |
| Graphics | Apple M4 16 GB |
| VRAM | Shared with system memory |
| Storage | 128 GB available space on SSD (SSD required) |
| Network | Broadband internet connection required |
| Input | Keyboard and mouse required |
| Display | 1280 x 720 minimum resolution |

What this means in practice: The Mac recommended tier asks for an M4 chip and 16 GB of unified memory, which is a high bar. The M4 is Apple’s 2024 chip, so this targets Macs released in the last two years. MacGadget confirms that Blizzard recommends “an M4 with 16 GB RAM and macOS Sequoia 15 or newer.” If you own an M4 MacBook Pro or M4 Mac mini with 16 GB of RAM, you will meet this tier. If you have an M2 or M3 Mac, you can run the game at minimum settings, but the recommended experience is reserved for M4-class hardware.
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2: Not Available
World of Warcraft: Midnight is not available on any console platform. Blizzard’s senior game director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed in a November 2025 interview on the Unshackled Fury podcast that no console version is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch 2, as reported by GameSpot, TweakTown, and Multiplayer.it. Hazzikostas stated plainly: “To be completely transparent, there’s no reason to hide anything like that. If we were actively working to bring WoW to console or other platforms, we would simply say: ‘Yes, we’re working on it, we know there’s still a lot to do, but it’s a goal we want to achieve.’” The development team is focusing on the PC version and the changes coming with Midnight. If you play primarily on a console, you cannot access this expansion.
Steam Deck
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Compatibility | Runs via Proton (not officially Verified or Playable) |
| Performance | Playable with ConsolePort addon; one player reached 3500 M+ rating in Season 1 using only a Steam Deck |
| Additional Notes | Requires Proton Experimental and the ConsolePort addon for gamepad support. Login times can be long due to a known Wine bug. |

What this means in practice: World of Warcraft is not officially available on Steam, but it runs on Steam Deck through Proton Experimental, and the experience is surprisingly functional. Steam Deck HQ’s performance review confirms that the game “runs similarly to a native Steam title” with Proton. The critical addon is ConsolePort, which maps the game’s keyboard and mouse controls to a modern gamepad layout. Without it, playing on the Deck’s built-in controls is impractical. One player reached 3500 M+ rating in Midnight Season 1 using only a Steam Deck and a few addons, which is a strong indicator that high-level content is playable. However, there is a known Wine bug that can make login times take several minutes due to a network layer change in patch 12.x. If you own a Steam Deck and want to play WoW, it is possible with the right setup, but expect to spend time configuring ConsolePort and Proton.
Linux: Not Natively Supported
World of Warcraft: Midnight is a Windows and macOS release only. There is no native Linux version available. Linux users can run the game through Proton or Wine, and the Steam Deck performance data above applies to desktop Linux as well. However, this is not officially supported by Blizzard.
Final Verdict: Can Your Setup Run World of Warcraft: Midnight?
Midnight is the most demanding WoW expansion yet. The minimum spec requires a 6-core processor and a 4 GB DirectX 12 GPU, and the SSD requirement has no HDD fallback. If you have a gaming PC from the last five to six years with a 6-core CPU and a 4 GB GPU, you can run the game at 1280 x 720 on low settings. The recommended tier asks for an 8-core processor at 5.2 GHz and an 8 GB GPU, which is a modern mid-range configuration from the last two years. The 128 GB install size is substantial, so make sure you have enough free space on your SSD.
The Mac situation is more restrictive. Blizzard has dropped M1 support entirely, and M1 Macs will crash in newer zones. The minimum is now an M2, and the recommended tier asks for an M4 with 16 GB of RAM. If you own an M1 Mac, you cannot officially run Midnight. If you own an M2 or M3 Mac, you can run the game at minimum settings. The recommended experience is reserved for M4-class hardware.
On Steam Deck, the game runs via Proton with the ConsolePort addon. It is not officially Verified, but independent testing and player reports confirm it is playable, including high-level Mythic+ content. Login times can be long due to a known Wine bug, but the experience is otherwise functional. There is no console version and no native Linux version.
Specs may be revised by Blizzard in future patches, and the system requirements page notes that “due to potential programming changes, the system requirements may change over time.” This article reflects the Blizzard support system requirements page, Overclockers UK, MMO-Champion, MacRumors, MacGadget, Steam Deck HQ, WineHQ bug reports, GameSpot, TweakTown, and Multiplayer.it as of 18 September 2026.
